Mashed Potatoes With Mayonnaise

After many, many requests for this recipe, I have decided to share this joy with the people; you’re welcome. This version of my already very delicious mashed potatoes came to life during a so-called “mash off”. I held my cards close to my chest to make sure I’d win, so at the very last moment, when no one expected it, I added the mayonnaise and took first place. Your attempt will probably fail, but kudos for trying.


  • 1 kg potatoes;
  • ~100 ml full-fat milk;
  • 4 tbsp grated cheese;
  • salt;
  • pepper;
  • 4 tbsp butter (real butter, not the fake shit);
  • 4 tbsp mayonnaise (the real shit with eggs – no “light” or whatever rip off)

Steps for original mashed potatoes:

  1. Peel and boil the potatoes; add some salt to the water. Wait till the potatoes are soft and almost fall apart.
  2. Drain the potatoes, keep the water on the side. Carefully add milk and 2 tbsp butter, and start mashing the potatoes; the goal here is to create a smooth substance. Add more milk and butter if needed.
  3. Add salt and pepper to taste. Make sure you add more pepper than you normally would. The trick here is to be easy on salt and butter but generous on the pepper.

Extra steps for price winning mashed potatoes:

  1. Add the cheese to the potatoes, and make sure the cheese is melted and evenly mixed.
  2. Now add the mayonnaise, stir again, and serve with a winner’s smile.
