BLET Sandwich (aka BELT)

The classic BLT sandwich is almost perfect. What it lacks to perfection is the E. And no, I’m not talking about some flavor enhancer. I’m talking about an egg: bacon, lettuce, egg, tomato. When you come to think about it, though, the egg makes any dish better, so it basically is a flavor enhancer.

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of toast (or any bread of your choice – even a hot dog bun works);
  • 3 slices of bacon;
  • 1 egg;
  • 2 big tomato slices;
  • a little chopped salad leaves (Romaine is ideal because of the crunchiness, but anything works);
  • a little chopped onion (optional);
  • mayonnaise (I mixed mine with hot sauce and mustard, but again, that’s optional);
  • butter; – cheese (optional)

Steps:

  1. Preheat your oven to 180 C. Bacon will cook in 20 minutes, and meanwhile, we will get the rest of the ingredients ready. I recommend lining your baking tray with a piece of parchment paper, adding the bacon, and topping with another piece of parchment. This way, your slices will be perfectly even and crispy – precisely the way you need them.
  2. Chop and prep the rest of the ingredients. I like slicing off the bread crust, too. I’d say it’s a classic for sandwiches like BLT and Clubs.
  3. Make a scrambled egg (that’s what’s the butter and cheese are for).
  4. In a toaster (or together with bacon), toast your bread and layer your ingredients in a similar order (your goal is to have a layer of deliciousness followed by a layer of veg followed by a layer of deliciousness, etc.): mayonnaise, tomato, bacon, lettuce, egg.
